UPDATE ON PROGRESS: Hermanus CBD Storm water infrastructure Upgrade [17 Nov 2020]

Phase 1 of the Hermanus CBD Stormwater infrastructure project is almost done and on track for completion before the end of November 2020.

Herewith the update on progress:

Phase 1 - Area 1 (Marine Drive and Parking)

The construction in Marine Drive is 90% complete and the road, with parking area, is open for vehicle parking.

The construction activity is minimal and pedestrian access and movement is possible.

  • The reinstatement of the parking area paving is still outstanding.
  • The reinstatement of the road surface asphalt premix is scheduled to be completed by 19 November 2020.

Phase 1 - Area 2 (Hamewith Building)

The construction at the Hamewith Building is 95% complete.

  • The 900 mm storm water pipes have been laid and backfilled and manholes constructed.
  • The reinstatement of the driveway layer works and paving have been completed.

Phase 1 - Area 3a (Main Road)

The Main Road construction activity is 80% complete and the road is open for one-way vehicular traffic.

  • The 750 mm and 900 mm storm water pipes have been laid and backfilled.
  • The storm water catchpits and manholes have been constructed, SWMH7 has been partially completed.
  • The reinstatement of the road layer works has been completed.
  • The reinstatement of the road surface asphalt premix is scheduled to be completed by 19 November 2020.

Phase 1 - Area 3b (Dirkie Uys Street)

The Dirkie Uys construction activity has been 80% completed and the parking area is open for vehicular parking.

  • The 750 mm storm water pipes have been laid and backfilled.
  • SWMH7 and SWMH8 have been partially completed.
  • The reinstatement of the road layer works has been completed.
  • The reinstatement of the road surface asphalt premix is scheduled to be completed by 19 November 2020.

Phase 2 - Area 2 &3 (High Street)

The construction activity in High Street has commenced from the Dirkie Uys/High Street intersection to Woolworths which is currently closed to vehicular traffic, but open to pedestrians.

  • The 525 mm storm water pipes from SWMH8 – SWMH 9 have been laid and backfilled.
  • The Medium Voltage cable has been replaced from Woolworths to the Dirkie Uys/High Street intersection mini sub.
  • The existing kerbs, channels and road asphalt surfacing have been removed.
  • The contractor is currently cutting and shaping the existing road according to the final design levels.
  • The High Street paving is scheduled to commence on 20 November 2020.
