The Old Harbour Open-Air Museum is a provincial heritage site. It is unique in that apparently it is one of only two fishing harbours in the world that has been conserved in tact.
meanders for almost 11 kilometres along the coast from the New Harbour in the west to the estuary at the mouth of the Klein River in the east.
The idea of parkrun was conceived by Zimbabwean-born Londoner Paul Sinton-Hewitt in 2004. Sinton-Hewitt has never hidden his selfish reasons for originally starting parkrun: at the time of its creation in October 2004, he had just been made redundant and had also got injured, meaning no more running for the foreseeable future. This gave him the motivation to go ahead with a plan he had been mulling for a while: a social time trial over 5 kilometers held every week, primarily for club runners but open to anyone who wanted to come along. Despite disbelief from many of his clubmates about its viability, the inaugural Bushy Park Time Trial took place on October 2nd 2004, with 13 runners and finished in a slightly contrived dead-heat between Ranelagh Harriers’ Chris Owens and Matt Morgan in 18:47. There were no barcodes, no finish tokens, no marshals, just two volunteers, a stopwatch and some number-punched washers to be handed out for finishing positions.
13 runners, 5 kilometers...the start of something beautiful!

Hermanus Parkrun will take place on 23 December 2023. At last, permission has been granted to get to the start of the route following the devastating storms in September.
That said- PLEASE NOTE- that there is a stop-and-go in place on the R320, so getting to the start will take a little longer and you should therefore leave plenty of time to get there.
ALSO- most importantly – the bridge on Camphill Road still only has a temporary fix. A marshal will be on the bridge ensuring all vehicles drive across slowly, and one at a time- so this will impact the time it will take to get to the start.
Hermanus is so excited to be back in the Parkrun fraternity and looks forward to welcoming everyone back!
