Hermanus in the heart of the Cape Whale Coast of South AfricaContact Us

Tony de Freitas

Tony was born in Johannesburg in 1950 it is said with a pencil behind his ear – not because of his Portuguese name (de Freitas) but because as far back as can be remembered he was always sketching with it! In youth he ‘fell in love’ with watercolour and has chosen to concentrate on this delightful medium. In April 1985 Tony and his family moved to Hermanus and here he has been absorbing the unique atmosphere of this beautiful place. Now he has produced eight souvenir paintings to bring Hermanus into the hearts and homes of many more!

Protecting the endangered Indian Ocean Humpback dolphin

Most people may have never heard of Indian Ocean humpback dolphins. which makes them very difficult to protect. As South Africa’s most endangered marine mammal, they are shy and elusive and inhabit a narrow strip of water on our coastline.
