The Old Harbour Open-Air Museum is a provincial heritage site. It is unique in that apparently it is one of only two fishing harbours in the world that has been conserved in tact.
meanders for almost 11 kilometres along the coast from the New Harbour in the west to the estuary at the mouth of the Klein River in the east.
Hermanus Golf Club is perfectly set in the beautiful town of Hermanus on the Cape Whale Coast merely 90 minutes from Cape Town. Set at the foot of the Klein River Mountains, the views over the bay are breath-taking.
The course boasts a spectacular 27 holes. Originally designed by the legendary Bob Grimsdell it was not surprising that Peter Matkovich, as South Africa’s foremost golf course architect, was retained to infuse his special brand of flair and experience to maximise the potential on this scenic and gentle landscape. The flair is immediately noticeable in the use of new water and rocky features, as well as the introduction of visually pleasant grassy mounds adding definition and shape to the holes.
The changes have achieved a great boost to the challenge of this golf course. The improvements have created an opportunity for a real challenge if the course is played from the back tees, while the introduction of different tees (championship, members, seniors and ladies) will allow all levels of golfers to participate in competitions. Superb new greens and bunkering have been introduced to the course that has been considerably lengthened.
The course is set around a restored wetland which provides for abundant birdlife and fynbos the fauna unique to the Cape Floral Kingdom. Hermanus Golf Club is a fantastic experience for golfers of all levels and the natural beauty and well-manicured course will create a special golf memory.
